Have a Drink Friday - Cinco de Mayo Margaritas

Well how about that? Just so happens this week's #HADF lands on Cinco de Mayo. Always a great excuse in America to drink margaritas and eat tacos. So this week I'm featuring five margarita recipes that sound pretty good to me courtesy of the GOAT - Better Homes & Gardens.

Oh, and a perfect time for this classic shirt!

Classic Lime Margarita

ClassicLimeMarg The original limeade margarita is a classic drink for a Cinco de Mayo party. To serve eight party guests, you'll need:
  • 12-oz. can of frozen limeade concentrate
  • 3/4 cup gold tequila
  • 1/2 Cointreau or other orange liqueur
  • 4 cups ice
  • Lime
  • Coarse salt or sugar
Instructions: Put limeade concentrate, tequila, and Cointreau in a blender; cover and blend to combine. Gradually add ice cubes through an opening in the blender's lid until mixture becomes slushy. To prepare the margarita glasses, rub a lime wedge around each rim and dip into a shallow dish of coarse salt or sugar.

Blackberry Margarita on the Rocks

BlackberryMarg Fresh blackberries are the perfect garnish for this fruity margarita. To serve eight Cinco de Mayo party guests, you'll need:
  • 1 to 1-1/2 cups of tequila
  • 1-1/2 cups Triple Sec or other orange liqueur
  • 3/4 cups blackberry brandy (optional)
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 cup superfine sugar or powdered sugar
  • 16-oz. package frozen unsweetened blackberries, thawed
  • Ice
  • Fresh blackberries
Instructions: Combine tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, and sugar; stir until sugar is dissolved. If desired, replace half of the Triple Sec with blackberry brandy. Chill until ready to serve. In a blender, place the package of unsweetened blackberries; cover and blend until smooth. If desired, strain to remove seeds. Add blended fruit to tequila mixture; pour over ice cubes and garnish with fresh blackberries.

  • 1/3 cup agave nectar
  • 1-1/2 cups sparkling wine or champagne
  • Lime peel strips or very thin lime slices
Instructions: In a cocktail shaker, combine half of the tequila, lime juice, and agave nectar with plenty of ice. Shake for 5 seconds and strain the mixture into three glasses. Repeat with remaining tequila, juice and agave nectar. Top each serving with sparkling wine; add a lime peel strip and additional lime juice to taste.
