How to Make an Arnold Palmer

To be a fly on the wall at the Palm Springs restaurant when Arnold Palmer orders his homemade concoction of Ice Tea and Lemonade for the first time.  To be sitting next to Arnie, to hear that random women ask the waitress if she could have what Mr. Palmer was having, to be part of history…  Truth be told, Mr. Palmer actually preferred 3 parts unsweetened ice tea and 1 part lemonade as opposed to the half and half which most people associate with him.

Regardless of the ratio, an Arnold Palmer is THE DRINK.  If you golf,  you understand that this drink is the epitome of perfection.  If you don’t golf you still know the drink by name.  Arnold was many things to many people.  He was the leader of his own army, a spokesman, an athlete, a husband, father, grandfather, worldwide ambassador and inventor.  Arnie may be gone from this world but our memories of him live on.

The next time your order his namesake drink, stop and reflect on what this man brought to the game.  So order a few for your foursome, make some birdies and thank Mr. Palmer.

Here’s how to make a fresh Arnold Palmer.

Iced Tea portion:

3-4 black tea bags,

4 c. water, divided

Lemonade portion:

3/4 c. lemon juice

1/2 c. sugar

3 1/4 c. cold water

Directions:

  1. In a microwave safe glass measuring cup or bowl, add 2 c. of water with 3-4 black tea bags. Microwave for 2 minutes. Remove from microwave and let tea steep for about 5-10 minutes. Remove tea bags, pour tea concentrate into a pitcher and add 2 more cups of cold water. Stir.
  2. In a separate container, like a large glass measuring cup, combine lemon juice, sugar and 3 1/4 c. cold water. Stir to dilute sugar. Pour into pitcher with ice tea mixture and stir to combine. Chill. When ready to serve, pour into glasses over ice. Keep refrigerated.

You can’t be the king and you certainly can’t lead your own army, BUT…You can drink the drink and wear the shirt.

Raise up your glass and let’s toast to The GOAT.  Boss Moves Only
